The mission of PSV

The Polish Society for Virology began its activities in January 2010. The initiator and founder was Prof. Małgorzata Polz-Dacewicz, – the organizer of the 1st Lublin Virology Days, which took place in June 2008 in Lublin.

An initiative group was formed at that time, represented by scientists from several institutions, namely Prof. Martyna Kandefer-Szerszeń,  (UMCS Lublin), Prof. Anna Goździcka-Józefiak, (Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań), Prof. Magdalena Kosz-Vnenchak, (Collegium Medicum of the Jagiellonian University, Kraków), Prof. Włodzimierz Gut, Prof. Bogumiła Litwińska, Prof. Kazimierz Madaliński, and Prof. Joanna Siennicka (National Institute of Public Health – National Institute of Hygiene, Warsaw).

The idea of establishing the Virology Society was strongly supported by Prof. Jan Żmudziński, – head of the Department of Virology at the National Veterinary Institute in Puławy.

The goal of the PTW is to integrate the scientific community and create a forum for the exchange of information and experiences, as well as to inspire discussion and cooperation among scholars representing all aspects of virology.

PSV in the service of virology

Virology, as a science, has its own history, its own research methods, and its own specialists. It is a rapidly evolving scientific field. In the face of emerging viral diseases and the diagnosis of existing ones, the development of this discipline is essential both from the perspective of individual patient safety and in terms of public health. In addition to basic research, the following are essential: appropriate prevention (development of new vaccines), the development of new diagnostic technologies, and research on new antiviral drugs (due, among other things, to the emergence of resistant strains).

To fulfill its statutory objectives, the Society organizes meetings, symposia, and scientific conferences. It collaborates in this regard with related associations in Poland and abroad. Its activities are based primarily on the volunteer work of its members. The scientific conference “2nd Lublin Virology Days” in September 2010 was already held as part of the activities of the Polish Society for Virology.
